New Orleans and Broomfield Co. based self-taught artist Sigrid Sarda creates life- size wax figures in the tradition of the doll as a magical figure. The use of materials is no accident. Wax has a paradoxical nature, it is fragile yet durable, reminiscent of that the human condition. Sarda borrows from allegories, fairytales, archetypes and today’s cultural norms and accepted values to create nightmarish vignettes of her own malaise.
She has lectured on the art and history of anatomical wax works, appeared on television, and has exhibited both in the states and abroad.
