Located in Middling Market

In this piece, the artist invites the viewer to question the idea of energy. The black void that comprises the bulk of the machine, an overt nod to the overwhelming void of the cosmos. Yet sparks of color pepper the vast emptiness, mirroring formed galaxies, the coagulation of remnants of energy into matter, challenging the simplicity of emptiness. The brutal filigree motif adorning the void, reminiscent of energy drink can design. The asinine figurative forms depicted shakily, confident with intent, but varying in application. The artist used a method approach to the forms, by consuming 11 energy drinks throughout their process to convey a jittery, hyper-focused yet frenzied result. This was to parallel the behavior of the fictional sport-obsessed mutated youth who dwell in this arcade environment, demonstrating their commitment, but lack of understanding of ‘Sport’ as concept in an energetic and discordant expression. Needless to say, the artist was * lit. -Benji Geary
