Toothgeist: Tooth Slime

Located in Middling Market

Toothgeist Toothpaste was inspired by my time living in Portland Oregon. While I was trying to find work I would walk around different parts of town applying for any and every job I thought would hire me. During these walks I came across several large iconic spinning signs shaped like giant loaves of bread or enormous cartons of milk. These landmarks stuck with me and inspired this spinning sign.

The artwork printed on the sides of the tech box enclosure were developed by Luke Dorman and myself (with Luke doing the graphic design work), based on the work of vintage sci-fi and fantasy artists such as Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo.

The juxtaposition of the valiant hero knight and the junk food warriors battling over the health of the lone tooth are meant to be reminiscent of the classic hero rescuing a person in distress. The use of felt for the toothpaste itself was meant to do two things; comply with flame resistant materials concerns, and also add a touch of surrealism to the piece. The soft, fuzzy, felted toothpaste is meant to elicit a response of surprise from the viewer once they realize what it is made of. - Chris Hilson
